Thorin son of Thrain is a struggling blacksmith descended from a fallen line of kings.
In an attempt to provide for his family over the winter, he reluctantly accepts an impossible sounding task – to hunt down an enchanted deer that lives in the Old Forest that borders the Shire, and make armour and weapons from its hide and antlers.
He never expected to succeed. And he certainly never expected what he found to change his life so completely.

(Thorin forgot his notes for next meeting, but thankfully Bilbo saw them when he went to get his own documents from their chambers.
Also he teases Thorin by slapping anything that he brings Thorin and is remotely flat against his chest, because he still finds it hilarious how he got handed the contract that got him into all this)
