honestly? i get that people had problems with the hobbit films but.. they made tolkien’s characters come to life in such heartbreaking ways… like when thorin dies in the book you’re kinda like ‘oh it’s poetic and sad’ but when he dies in the movie it’s such a tragedy. he says himself that he wanted to live to fight another day, and he’s such a good person despite the gold sickness – he deserved to be king, he deserved to not see his family die before his eyes. and richard armitage and martin freeman in that scene.. any hope died a cruel death and you can see it happening in bilbo’s eyes. you don’t have to ship it to mourn for a future that bilbo could’ve had – friends and people that loved and cherished him – and instead thorin got a tomb and bilbo, an empty house.
