Headcanon that an outraged 6-year-old Charlie Weasley writes to an elderly Newt Scamander wanting to know why Gringotts keeps a dragon locked up underground and begging him to fix it. Newt writes back saying that sadly he’s been fighting that fight for years and no one ever wants to listen to him because the powerful families whose money is being kept safe by the dragon always shut him down, and that Charlie is the first person he’s heard of who’s as angry as he is about it. Charlie decides that day to dedicate his life to finding out everything he can about dragons so that one day he can free the poor Gringotts dragon. After the war, when they hear that Harry, Ron and Hermione freed the dragon, they celebrate and immediately begin petitioning to have it made illegal to imprison dragons so that nothing like that ever happens again. It’s only when Hermione becomes Minister that it’s finally signed into law.

This is the best Harry Potter headcanon I’ve ever seen

yes yes yes

Just imagine how that conversation would go though, like Charlie’s been learning about dragons his whole life, studying them, learning about the laws surrounding them, practising the jailbreak of dragons by smuggling one out of Hogwarts, preparing for the moment when, one day, he can free the Ukrainian Ironbelly from Gringotts.

And Ron’s like “Oh, yeah, don’t worry about it—we broke into Gringotts and used him as our get-away vehicle. He’s just chilling in the wilds somewhere now so, yeah. Job done.”

I want an AU where Ron, completely convinced that he’s overshadowed by all his brothers and will never be as remarkable or as well-recognised as any of them, just accidentally achieves all of their major life goals without noticing. They’re all super jealous and think of him as The Golden Brother and he’s completely clueless.

When Ron is
twenty-six, Ginny and Luna decide to have a joint hen party. He’d rather
thought the whole point of one was having a last night away from your
soon-to-be-spouse, but Ginny has never done anything according to expectation,
and Luna… well. But with the kids spending the night at his mum’s, Harry
occupied with the Ferret and George taking care of the shop, he finds himself,
somehow, having a drink with Bill.

He doesn’t get to
spend much time with Bill, though Merlin knows he’s always wanted to—he and
Charlie both seemed like Godric Gryffindor, himself, when Ron was little. They had
that flair of drama to them that Ron has always lacked, that dazzling sort of
glamour he’s always wished he could emulate. Charlie with his dragons and Bill
with his curse-breaking (to say nothing of Fleur, later on). But Ron’s always
just been Ron, so he finds himself flattered and pleased when he and Bill end
up at a pub together.

One drink turns
into several; before Ron knows it, they’re more than half-pissed, and unless
Hermione’s decided to actually let her hair down—she always claims she’s going to, but is usually
back from these sorts of things by half-one, his responsible girl—he’s going to
be getting a Patronus soon. He says as much to Bill, and Bill nods with a small
uptilt of his lips, then orders them a last round. He fiddles with his glass
for a few minutes, once it’s been delivered. Ron looks at him, alerted by
something he can’t put his finger on.

“We’re not supposed
to ask Harry about the Horcrux thing,” Bill finally says, rubbing his chin with
a forefinger.

so sorry if you’ve been asked this before, but do you have any solavellan fics to recommend? the trailer has left me hungry

**the one (1) good post-trespasser fic I’ve found
*not Trespasser compliant, but so fucking goooood

Damn, so much of the ones I’m looking through in my ao3 history have been deleted, are not canon-compliant anymore, or aren’t finished, or the Lavellans don’t resemble my Lavellan at all. It makes me want to write fic.

Thorin surges forward and begins inspecting the gates but he knows they will not open. They are not designed to. A roar of irritation leaves his throat at this and he presses himself against the gate, pushing. Perhaps this should not be but he must see it – he must see him. He is there and Thorin must touch him once more. He must see bright eyes and he must hear a chiming laugh.

I was commissioned by the talented @vtforpedro to illustrate her fanfic, “it’s been a long day without you, my friend”!

It’s such a moving fic, please click here to read it!!

Summary:

In which Thorin lives his life, wishes for more, and learns that wishes sometimes come true.

A fair warning: this one will break your heart. (But give me a minute, because that’s not the end-all of it.) It will break it with a grand blow and small, slow increments of pain, delivered through excellent characterization, achingly poignant description and top-notch dialogue.

And those very same tools will tinker your heart right back together. Eventually. I’m not going to lie: by the end of the story I was grinning like something that should be locked up for their own good, and went on doing so for a long while after.

This is the story equivalent of really good chocolate: just the right blend of bitter and sweet. Enjoy!

read it here on ao3.

Tekéhu closed his eyes as he enjoyed the sun warming his skin. Around him, the sailors crewing the Defiant called to each other as the ship glided through the Deadfire’s waters. On the other side of the deck, Tekéhu could faintly hear Quarin talking to Maia; it seemed he was making his usual rounds, checking in on his companions.

Normally, Tekéhu would have a story of a former lover prepared for him; he was very much enjoying their foreplay. However, this time, he had something else on his mind, something he wanted to discuss with the Captain.

Opening his eyes, Tekéhu watched as Quarin moved to speak with Serafen. Almost lazily, Tekéhu formed a watery fish in his hands and made it swim around as he waited. It seemed Serafen had little to say, because the fire godlike was soon taking the steps two at a time and walking towards him.

Quarin offered him his trademark crooked smile when he saw the fish construct sparkling in the sunlight.

“Doing that for my benefit?” he asked, inclining is head towards the fish.

“I say, Captain, I didn’t even know you were on the deck,” Tekéhu said, betraying the lie with a sly grin.

Notes:

Happy 2nd anniversary everyone!! I cannot imagine my life without ffxv and this fandom, it’s what got me back into writing and through it I’ve met some of my closest friends. This game has had such an impact on us all and I wanted to capture as much of those feelings in this piece. It’s possibly my favorite thing I’ve written thus far. I really hope you like it!

Enjoy~

shiro is a real estate agent with a problem. a ghost problem.

The trick to getting blood out of carpets is a fresh bottle of club soda, a generous sprinkling of salt, and patience. Failing that, some diluted ammonia will usually do the trick. Right now, though, Shiro thinks that the only solution to deal with it would be to tear the carpets out altogether and lay plastic down over the bare concrete floor until he can call an exorcist. A career change, he thinks to himself as he scrubs the high pile with a stiff brush, might be in order if he can ever make this sale.

Be that as it may, the blood isn’t going to handle itself.

Shiro blows a stray lock of hair out of his eyes as he kneels back on his knees, blotting over the stain with a clean towel. A loud bang from upstairs rattles the chandelier, unsettling some dust bunnies from among the delicate crystals. It’s a testament to how numb he’s become to all of these sorts of events that Shiro doesn’t even flinch. He picks up the scrub brush and gets back to work.

ariela-of-aedyr:

This was somewhat inspired by @pillarspromptsweekly‘s prompt #51, which came to my attention during PoE Fic Appreciation Week (I think it was @queen-scribbles that had reblogged it?), and then was promptly forgotten all about until this weekend, when I finally remembered that I’d actually wanted to write something for it.

It wasn’t so much that she thought that what she had done was wrong. After all, Ariela knew, it had all worked out in the end. But that didn’t stop her from wondering, on quiet days- days when she had nothing else to do but to look back over her past choices- whether what she had chosen to do was really for the best, or if things might have worked out better for everyone involved had she just let cooler heads prevail.

Vela was almost two years old now, a sweet bundle of joy who’s favourite pastimes were toddling along with Ariela wherever that she went, and playing with the colourful paints and crayons that had been gifted to her by an artist who had stayed at Caed Nua for a time, and had taken a particular liking to the young orlan girl. Ariela adored her with all of her heart. She didn’t exactly know how to be a mother, on account of never having had one herself, but she liked to think that she was making a good go of it all the same. She spent as much time with the girl as she could, and would frankly do anything to keep her safe and happy, but she didn’t know whether or not that was enough. She had taken the girl from her family home, after all. That was the truth of it, regardless of what circumstances had drove her to do it.

Okay, for the “kiss” prompts, can I request Emiri and a kiss on the forehead?

queen-scribbles:

Emiri hated letting people down. Especially friends. And extra especially friends who had done so much for her. Not to mention this one favor, one request, was something that should have been right in her wheelhouse. Reading souls was her specialty twice over.

Yet she’d failed. So she stared moodily into the campfire, fingers peeling bark off the stick in her hands and flicking it toward the dancing flames. He’s been tromping after me for months, protecting me from all sorts of ne’er do wells and I couldn’t even get him an answer.

They’ve left Defiance Bay behind them, and now Aloth has something to say, again. Because sometimes when you break big news, you need to check in on it again a little bit afterwards to make sure you’re not about to get murdered.

Alternately: Two people who fancy each other at least a little bit have an earnest conversation in a pub.

Prompt: Aloth, a tavern, risk

“Demetria, a word?” Aloth looked nervous as he jerked his head in a let’s not talk about this in front of everyone gesture. But then, Aloth almost always looked nervous. Demetria had come to accept that his face just did that, most of the time.

She obliged, moving away with him to a more secluded end of the bar where they could ostensibly be waiting for their drink orders. Behind them, Hiravias had just settled into the armchair Demetria had just vacated and started trying to talk his way out of having to pay for the next round. They would have their privacy for some time, and their voices wouldn’t carry far over the bawdy tavern songs cheerfully rendered by a dwarven singer.

“It’s about what I told you, when we were coming out of Defiance Bay.” Aloth took a sharp breath in. A slow breath out.

@pillarspromptsweekly

I am also hopping on the Monday Memories bandwagon, on a Friday, because I’m a rebel, and I procrastinate.

And, as AO3 is broken right now, you can find the original link out here, but until then, it’s all below the cut!
