This drawing doesn’t have much to do with the “Slice” prompt, but I wanted to end Inktober on a sweet note. You guys… are the best. ಥ﹏ಥ

And with that, Inktober 2018 is finally in the bag for me only a week and a half late. D: I feel like I experimented and took more risks last year, but I’m proud of the drawings I did this year, especially considering I was under a huge IRL work deadline during most of it. I plan on writing a post either tonight or tomorrow about what’s next for me, but I promise this won’t be the last sketch this blog gives away!
(Wip to destress from all the commissions and Kickstarter and etsy orders and conventions that’s making my head spin. It’s ok, I just need to reorganize and do things one by one without panic….I want to wrap up everything from this year within this year)
I’d like to think they can go either way. Sometimes Noctis falls asleep on Ignis and he shifts so he’s holding him in his arms, but writing The Voyage has gotten me obsessed with the idea of Noctis being this surprisingly-affectionate partner that gives Ignis this place to feel taken care of just like he’s always taken care of Noct. Now I picture a slightly-stiff Ignis gradually getting used to the idea of falling asleep in Noct’s arms, height difference be damned.
6.What is their favorite feature of their partner’s?
I like to think Ignis really appreciates Noct’s smile, especially after the Marilith incident. Noctis went from a really cheerful boy to someone who had multiple trauma inflicted on them in quick succession at a young age, so his personality changed drastically. He didn’t smile as big or as often as he had, so when he did it turned into this magical moment. Even as they got older and set off on the road, Ignis loves watching Noctis find these little things to smile about, from fishing to Prompto’s jokes to a pretty view of the ocean. Especially when it’s genuine and it shows in his eyes. In Verse 2 when the two of them find peace post-Ardyn and darkness Noctis smiles a lot more, and Ignis is just. So happy he’s finally happy enough to smile so much.
On a less serious note, I keep thinking of Noctis having this embarrassing infatuation with Ignis’s hands, especially because Iggy always wears gloves. But Ignis also goes above and beyond for Noct’s sake with his hands, from cooking to fighting to sewing and taking notes and cleaning. He’s the Hand of the King, guiding him and supporting him whenever he needs him no matter how far he has to reach. And of course they have that moment they recreate from their first meeting with Noctis grabbing Iggy’s hand with both his hands. Honestly, I’d be down for more platonic hand holding in the main game. I can see Noct taking Iggy’s hand especially often Chapter 10 and beyond to help Iggy get around easier, but also to offer and receive support and affection as they go through this terrible time together. I have a lot of hand feelings.

What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?
Noctis dealing with his emotions is basically clamming up and wallowing in his thoughts over them, so that would be the case when he realizes his feelings for Ignis go beyond friendship or brotherhood or whatever he’s used to dealing with. Ignis would notice his distancing himself, but after that fight in Brotherhood Episode 4, he’s learned to let Noctis take his time figuring emotional stuff out. He’d be hurt, but wouldn’t press him on it or try to apologize for something he didn’t know he did wrong. I can see him waiting for Noctis to reestablish their usual relationship as he tries not to let Ignis realize his feelings have shifted to another dimension.
Meanwhile, I’m so sold on Ignis having quiet romantic feelings for Noctis ingame that it’s hard for me to pin down the moment he’d start, much more what would have changed. I feel like that while Ignis would never let himself entertain thoughts of divulging his feelings and risking his job/friendship with Noctis, those feelings would be channeled into being a better friend and advisor to him. When you love someone you want them to be happy, even if it’s not with you. We see Ignis be so patient and protective of Noctis in the game, having this emotional understanding he didn’t have in Brotherhood.
(It almost feels like Ignis and Gladio switch places in terms of understanding what Noctis needs emotionally. Gladio was originally the one Noct could express his frustration to about his dad, but in the game he’s the one who say he has to think for Noct and separate himself from his feelings.)
It’d be subtle with Ignis, but his overall disposition would soften around Noctis, and maybe this is where he makes that extra effort to understand his friend more. Not only to express his feelings in the few ways he can, but also to make sure they aren’t found out by Noct, if that makes sense.
